SOCK yarn and Fingering-weight Yarn: what's the difference?
While generally the same size and weight, sock yarn and fingering-weight yarns can vary enormously based on the fiber and ply count, with some difference in stretchiness and durability (more plys generally means more durable), which may be more important qualities than just the actual weight. For example, both the popular Tosh Light and the less known Hedgehog Sock or Meadowcroft Sock are all mostly Superwash Merino, but while Tosh Light is 1-ply, the Meadowcroft is 2-ply and the Hedgehog is a 4-ply with a touch of nylon, and then of course there is the popular Malabrigo Sock, a 3-ply Merino superwash—so many choices!
On the other hand of you're looking for sumptious luxury you should look at Artyarns handpainted silk and cashmere blends as well as Jade Sapphire's Cashmere/linen blend—these extraordinary yarns will give you a sock fit for a queen!
Yes there are dozens of choices when it comes to yarn but think of Fabulous Yarn as your yarn curator—choosing the best yarns for your next project. Any questions and we are happy to help!
